Music for cado Brand Film — Designing the Sound of Air
I composed the music for the brand film of cado, a Japanese brand known for air purifiers with world-class purification performance.
The central theme shared for this project was the coexistence of two seemingly opposing images:
a refined, urban design language, and the sensation of taking a deep breath in vast natural surroundings.
The challenge was to allow both to exist within a single musical expression.
The music is written entirely for solo piano.
While minimal in appearance, the composition is never static.
Subtle changes accumulate continuously, allowing the sound to flow without stopping.
Rather than being explanatory, the music seeks an appropriate distance — translating elements such as Japanese aesthetics, the transparency of air, and the rhythm of breathing into sound without overt symbolism.
As a result, the music does not pull attention away from the visuals.
Instead, it functions as a shared layer with the image — allowing the viewer to sense “air itself” rather than consciously listen to music.
Beyond the Film
This piece is now also performed in concert settings, existing independently from the visual work as a complete musical composition.
Rather than directly describing product specifications, this project serves as an example of translating a brand’s sensibility and atmosphere into music.
At Drifter, we focus on carefully converting the abstract values shared by products, spaces, and visuals into sound — using the fewest possible elements, with precision and restraint.
