On October 15, 2016, we held a Gagaku concert at the Iwata Ken Museum for Mothers and Children in Omishima, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
We wanted the local people to hear authentic Gagaku, so we asked Gagaku players belonging to the Reigakusha, one of Japan's leading Gagaku groups, to perform for them.
Before the performance, a workshop was held for the people of Omishima to actually touch and make sounds with Gagaku instruments.
Although we have been able to experience Gagaku through sound and images, it is not often that we have the opportunity to experience real Gagaku.
Although there was an opportunity for the audience to hear one of Ishida's pieces performed at this performance, basically, our main task was to connect Omishima and Gagaku players and to plan the performance.
This performance was also the catalyst for my desire to be actively involved in connecting traditional Japanese music and those who need it.
