This performance also marks the opening concert of Taro Ishida’s 2026 International Tour.

This program is presented as a related event to the special exhibition
“Nihonga Avant-Garde: KYOTO 1948–1970.”
The program consists of a talk by
Mitsuhiko Mori (Curator, Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art)
and Taro Ishida,
followed by a concert performed by the full TOKOYO ensemble.
This will be the first TOKOYO performance in the Kansai region.

This concert marks the beginning of Taro Ishida’s solo activities.

This will be Taro Ishida’s first lecture in Europe.
Organized by the Bavarian–Japanese Association, the largest Japan-related organization in Germany.
Beginning with Gagaku, the lecture explores the roots and spirit of Japanese aesthetics.

Taro Ishida will present a lecture and concert in the Japan section of the Leipzig Book Fair,
one of the world’s largest book fairs, attracting over 260,000 visitors.
This performance will also be presented together with the Cologne Gagaku Ensemble.

[Grand Festival – Dedication Performance]
The final destination of the 2026 International Tour is a dedication performance at the Grand Festival of Kasama Inari Shrine.
Taro Ishida was commissioned to compose music related to the shrine’s rituals,
and the full TOKOYO ensemble will perform as part of the official festival ceremonies.
Please note that this dedication performance is not generally open to the public.
After the festival, Taro Ishida is considering holding a separate lecture or event.
